Getting hereThe university of Dortmund has two locations: "Campus Nord" and "Campus Süd". Both are connected by a suspended monorail system called the H-Bahn. See the university map for details. The university can be reached by several means: By CarThe university of Dortmund is located close to the motorway intersection Dortmund West, where the A 45 Frankfurt-Dortmund ("Sauerlandlinie") crosses the B 1 / A 40 ("Ruhrschnellweg"). That's how the university is connected to the west, with the motorway network of the Ruhr Area and beyond that to the regions of the Lower Rhine and the Netherlands. In the eastern direction the B 1 leads through Dortmund to Unna, where there is a connection with the motorways leading to Bremen, Hannover/Berlin and Kassel. In the north, the A 45 ends after a few kilometres at the A 2, leading to the Kamener Kreuz and in the other direction to Oberhausen. In the Westhofener Kreuz, south of the university, the A 45 crosses the A 2, leading to Bremen and Köln. You will find the closest motorway exits on the A 45 in Dortmund-Eichlinghofen (close to Campus Süd) and on the B 1 / A 40 in Dortmund-Dorstfeld (close to Campus Nord). There are signs at both exits leading you to the university. The local road network is equipped with signs leading you to Campus Nord and Campus Süd. To get from Campus Nord to Campus Süd by car there is only a small winding road Vogelpothsweg / Baroper Straße. Out of consideration for the residents the speed limit is 30 km/h. It is recomended to leave the car on one of the car parks and use the H-Bahn (suspended monorail system) on the campus. There are route descriptions available for printing out or faxing. By TrainThe university has its own suburban train station ("Dortmund Universität"). From there, suburban trains (S1) leave every 20 or 30 minutes for the following directions:
During the semesters there are additional suburban trains shuttling back and forth between Dortmund and Bochum. Informations about train schedules are available from the regional traffic company VRR and from the german rail company Deutsche Bahn. Please note, that the fares are cheaper, if you buy train tickets from your city directly to the station "Dortmund Universität", instead of buying a ticket to Dortmund main station and a second ticket from there to the University.
