Overview

The DFG-financed Research Training Group “Statistical Modelling“ links theory and practice in applied statistics, focussed on four areas:

  1. Relation between data collection and modelling,
  2. Basic principles of modelling,
  3. Empirical models,
  4. Algorithms for the validation and realization of statistical models.

General topic is the interaction in statistical research.

Members of the Research Training Group are the Professors of the Department of Statistics, Technische Universität Dortmund. Speaker of the group is Prof. Dr. Joachim Kunert.

The Research Training Group usually offers up to 12 full time grants for PhD students. Additionally, PhD students from the Department of Statistics participate in the group. For conditions on how to apply for the grants, see the German pages of the Research Training Group. Those conditions will soon also be available in English.

National and international guest scientists take part in the research training program that includes regular guest lectures, courses and conferences in various fields of statistics. PhD students are encouraged to present their research on international conferences and meetings. Thus, international scientific networking is fostered, and the group members get stimulation from outside the Research Training Group. The annual “Autumn Conference” is an additional means of control and positioning for both PhD students and the Department of Statistics’ professors.

The group closely cooperates with the Tampere Graduate School in Information Science and Engineering (TISE) and with the Collaborative Research Centre SFB 823 at the Department of Statistics, Technische Universität Dortmund.
