Programming course with R

The R programming course 2021 forms a part of the Master's Program in Data Science. But, this course is also for the students who want to learn R programming and/or have an interest in pursuing a career in the field of Data Science.

Course Structure

• The course will be organized as a one-week block course after the lecture period (summer break 2021).
• The course will be held in English.

Course outline

The course covers basics to advance topics in R programming. Specifically, the course covers the following topics:

• Data structures, constructs, primitives, assignments, simple functions
• Import and export (data, code, ...)
• Functions, scoping rules, debugging
• efficiency in R programming (memory, timing, etc.)
• Distributions and sampling
• Graphics
• Basic statistical methods in R
• Object-oriented programming
• Extensions: Packages
• Extensions: Sweave
• Extensions: C
• Parallelization

Prerequsites:

No programming experience is required for the course.

Software

You might want to install the free and open source software R and the graphical user interface RStudio prior to the first lecture.
